Marriott Syracuse Downtown

Image
I don't normally review hotels because at this point I don't stay in many hotels and when I do it's not by the hour.  In the case of the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, even though it took more than a days pay to spend the night the experience was worth it. The former Hotel Syracuse has been a north country landmark for years. I stayed at the hotel decades ago after hearing stories from relatives about their special memories.  My early trips were pleasant.  Eventually, even though the hotel still had fun historic features and a convenient location I stopped staying because the quality was so bad it was scary. I am grateful to the Marriott Chain for taking on the project to renovate the old hotel to the point that it surpasses it's former glory. Everything was perfect.  We couldn't ask for anything more.  Several members of our family stayed and everyone was equally pleased.  Beautifully restored ballroom Magnificent views

I visited this restaurant well over a year ago on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant was packed with diners finishing up their breakfast when I arrived. It was an odd time actually closer to lunch but my heart was set on breakfast. I ended up ordering a combination meal of soup and a western omelette.  The Spanish rice soup and the big breakfast we're both excellent. The only complaint would have been the burnt toast. I don't know why anyone would serve burnt toast using such delicious homemade bread.  Although minimum wage was lower at the time and I was above my budget it would have been possible to eat here for less than minimum wage.  Adding a beverage and soup pushed me over but it was well worth it.  Rating 4.5, I would have given them a five had they not served burnt toast.

Home Deli, Watertown, NY

Home Deli has been a neighborhood tradition for years. Well known for their Subs & Pizzas perfect for eat in or take out.  The building has been expanded over the years to provide to provide a back section for for pizza pick up. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.  Booths are available in the front.  We always enjoy the pizza and the subs are fantastic.  Home Deli advertisers locally so occasionally it's possible to find coupons.  Even without a coupon the restaurant is a good value.  Is absolutely possible to get a great meal here for less than minimum wage.  This annual event; hosted by the people of St. James Parish,  is a food Lover's Paradise.  The event is open to the public admission is free.  In addition to food booths they have rides, games of chance, children's games and some entertainment, but for me the food is the real star. Food tickets can be purchased for $.50. at ticket booths.    They tickets can be used to purchase food items from several food unique food booths. They have Specialty, Burger, Pizza, American, Lebanese, Fried Dough, Ice Cream and Baked Goods. Some of the items we tried were the clam chowder, perogies,, stuffed grape leaves, cabbage rolls, fried dough, rice pudding, custard, and baklava. All delicious.    Rating 5.  Go early, some of the items sell out.

Cornerstone Eatery, Public Square, Watertown NY

We had a great experience here.  Generally the restaurant is open Monday through Friday for lunches and occasionally for special events.  We happen to catch them when they were open for a special event.    Watertown was having a block party on Public Square and the restaurant stayed open to participate in the fun offering a special menu.  We placed our order selecting from the event menu. The gentleman taking our was able to answer my question about cowboy caviar which was one of the side choices.  It sounded interesting so that completed  our selection.  We found seating at high top table and waited for our order to be completed.  Orders are delivered to the opposite end of the counter.  I thought by the number of containers that they made an error.  I was assured that it was all mine.  The BBQ platter I ordered came with all three sides. This was a great value for the money. The combo allowed me to try the chicken and pork, both outstanding.  The platter was priced at $10 a
