Crystal, Watertown, NY

 The Crystal is a Watertown institution.  A place that's always been there,  A place for basic comfort food.  A place that felt like home, so much so that I went back to look for the review I found I never made one.  

The Crystal was a place that never seemed to change, even the prices were from another era.  Then the minimum wage increased, prices began to climb. We went from once or twice a week to once or twice a month.   COVID hit, and we started getting occasional takeout.  Our weekly Sunday brunch spot is no longer open on Sundays or Mondays. 

Happily one tradition that survived is Tom and Jerry's at Christmas.

   I am very happy to see this place given a new life.  I suspect by the aging gas pumps it was once a general store.  But I could be wrong as it has been a restaurant for as long as I can remember. The ice cream stand is a welcome addition.    They have a good assortment of delicious Gifford Ice Cream.  We have supported the restaurant through the years and it's various iterations.  We plan to go back and try the real food.  It's just hard to drive by and not grab a quick cone.

Park Bros. Bagels and Coffee, Potsdam

   We were close to Potsdam so we decided to swing by the Bagelery and pick up some bagels to go.  I didn't realize it had new owners.  It wasn't bad, just different.  Fancier and more formal. I'd probably still  stop if I was going by, but wouldn't drive out of the way.
