L & L Hawaiian BBQ

Perhaps it was because it was late on a Friday night but we didn't enjoy your meal as much as we had in the past. The good news is that by minimum wage standards almost everything on the menu was considered affordable.  Very few items with the exception of the combination plates actually cost more than $9.70 the new minimum wage. A full size meal includes two scoops of rice and a scoop of salad. I didn't realize one of the salad choices for sale it was a green salad. We ordered one meal with three scoops of rice and the other with a macaroni salad. I'm not a big fan of their mac salad. I don't know what they use for a dressing but it has very little flavor and is a very wet macaroni salad. We opted to try the more expensive combination platters. The first choice was the barbecue mix consisting of barbecue chicken beef & BBQ short ribs, We have had this conbo in the past and this time found the meat dry and much smaller portions the price $10.55. Second choice with a was the Lau Lau combo. The combo is only available on weekends and we thought a Friday night might be considered 'weekend' but we're informed it's only available on Sundays. New second choice was the L&L combo with mahi-mahi, fried shrimp and a choice between one of the barbecues. They were already available with the other combo, so we opted for chicken katsu. I have to say chicken katsu was the star of the evening. Unlike the other meats the chicken was tender, well breaded and cooked to perfection. Katsu dipping sauce was flavorful and a bit spicy.
The original plan had been to eat in and then enjoy frozen yogurt for dessert. Frozen yogurt option is not available until summer. They already started to clean up for the night, the smell of bleach was overwhelming so we opted for take out instead.

We do plan to return. Perhaps on a  Sunday. Another thing I enjoyed was that all of the meals were served with a scoop of shredded cabbage. I appreciate anyone who attempts to slip vegetables and to the American diet.

Still enjoyable.  They have removed the self serve yogurt bar but add some imported candy and snacks.
