The Gals Place, Alexandria Bay

This is the place or you can definitely enjoy a treat on a minimum wage.  Based on the description of a friend I expected a small restaurant that served ice cream, what I found was an ice cream stand with an eclectic little grocery store. The store features bulk food items a deli counter and some souvenirs. We arrived late in the afternoon and were looking for an early dinner. Wandering past the deli counter we noticed another counter, one small table and a menu to order Subs. One of the girls working in the ice cream stand quickly asked us if we would like to order a sub or would like something from the deli counter. We opted to leave in search of a more substantial dinner and return for ice cream. The return trip after dinner was a totally different experience.  The few people waiting at the outside window earlier were replaced by a long line stretching through a packed parking lot.  The lighting and the distance from the menu made it almost impossible to read so I ordered two smal

We enjoyed a very good meal however it was over $9.  They didn't have any dinner entrees at that price.  We could have opted for soup and salad or an appetizer to stay under budget but decided it was worth a little splurge. The fried Alaskan Whitefish at $11.99 was wonderful, reasonable portion for reasonable price. I appreciated that each entree came with the vegetable slightly overcooked but a vegetable.  The clams came with a side salad the fish with coleslaw, a basket of sliced Italian bread and choice of potato rounded out the meal.

BINGO. Sacred Heart

Good time and good value.  They offer a reasonably priced snack bar.  Pizza, burgers and hotdogs are only $2.  No real healthy options.  If you are careful about the number of cards purchased it's possible to have dinner and a night out for $9.  The game lasts longer than an hour and if you are lucky enough to win you could end up paying for your night out, All the workers are volunteers.  Games are every Tuesday in the gym.

Flaming Wok - Salmon Run Mall

I wouldn't make a special trip but you can definitely eat here for under $9.   I enjoyed the fried rice, the broccoli and mixed vegetables offered somewhat of a healthy alternative.

IHC Girls Soccer Game

If you enjoy sports, local high school sports are usually a good value.  Dinner was a Hoffman hotdog for $2. Not usually a lot of healthy choices but you are supporting a booster club.

Many items can be found for under $9. Today's treat was an amazing Gyro from Johnny D's for $7.
